When I lived there,Vancouver’s Chinatown was the second biggest in North America (after San Francisco’s)I’d never really been in it to see all the very weird and wonderful shops.
I wrote this as a young man who had seen little more than long-term unemployment since leaving school
I wrote this while working in a factory in Broadheath, Altrincham in 1989. I couldn’t believe that gritty, oily, noisy world still existed and wanted to describe it in verse.
From late 1989 to mid 1991 I worked in shopping malls in Vancouver, Canada. Awful places, retail palaces that seemed to be very popular.
